The Family Campout Part two Jordan was having a hard time sleeping, and was rolling back and forth in his sleeping bag. He opened his eyes. I have to pee, he thought, but everyone is asleep. I can do this by myself. I'll just unzip the tent and walk through the dark scary woods, to the smelly little out house, on the other side of the campsite. As he unzipped the tent, Mya woke and said," where are you going Jordan"? I have to pee he said. So do I whispered Mya, wait for me. Boomer was awake too. His tail wagging, with the anticipation of going out. Not now Boomer said Jordan. If you get lost in the woods, we may not find you. You have to stay here boy. Mya put on her shoes and off they went. As they were walking past the other tents, she tripped on a tree root, growing across the path. Who's there? asked Max softly, as to not wake anyone else up? It's us, Mya and Jordan. We have to pee. Me to said Max, I'll come with you. Not without me, said Ayla half yawning. I've had to pee for a while, but I was afraid to go alone. The children left the tent area and headed into the woods. It was pitch black, and hard for them to see. I wonder what time it is, said Mya. No one else is awake at any of the tent sites. Where is the bathroom Jordan, asked Ayla, I really have to go. It is somewhere on the other side of the site. I saw it when we drove in this morning, said Jordan. Max was quiet. Follow me said Jordan, I know I can find it. The crickets were chirping louder than ever. Strange noises, and the rustle of leaves, was beginning to scare them all. With every step they took it just got scarier. I coulda just peed on a tree near the tent thought Max quietly to himself. How do I always let Jordan and Mya get me into scary stuff like this. All of a sudden they heard something moving in the woods. It was rushing right toward them. The children froze in their tracks with fear. It's a bear, screamed Ayla. Oh God said Max, I knew it. It's gonna eat us all. Just then, a fawn, a fawn is a baby deer, stopped running, and was standing right in front of them. Well it's not a bear said Jordan with a sigh of relief. I hope no body peed in their pants, he chuckled, with a big grin on his face. Mya reached her hand toward the fawn. It didn't move. She pet it's head and the little deer came close to her. The children all gathered around the fawn, and began petting it all over. She seems to like being pet said Mya. I wonder where her mom is, said Ayla inquisitively. I don't know said Max, but I'm sure glad it's not a bear. I really have to pee Jordan, said Ayla, can we keep going now. The children said goodbye to the deer, and again began walking through the woods. Jordan was leading the way, with Mya second, then Ayla, and Max at the end of the line. They kept the girls in the middle to protect them. They came to a huge tree that had fallen across the path. Jordan climbed up onto the great big log, then he grabbed Mya's hand and helped her up. Then Ayla, and then Max climbed up by himself. When they jumped down the other side, they heard a sound, it was like a baby crying. Mya looked back over the tree, and there it was, the fawn was following them. It's the baby deer said mya, it wants to come with us. It will be fine right there , said Jordan, we have to keep moving. Onward they trudged through the dark woods. We are almost there said Jordan. Look said Max, it is getting light out. It is said Mya, it must be morning. No, said Jordan, look, it is the moon. It is coming up over the mountain. The camp ground was in a small valley, in between two high mountains, which were very close together. The light from the moon would only last a short time. With the help of the moon's light, Jordan could see much farther ahead. Aha, bellowed Jordan, I knew I could find it. Look he said, right there up ahead, it is the outhouse. Oh thank God said Ayla, I'm going first. When they got closer to the door opening, they saw it was just an old tiny wood shack with a roof, and a hole in a small wooden seat.It was old and very rundown. What is this Jordan, said Ayla with a hint of disgust in her voice. Yea said Mya, I ain't peeing in there, that's gross. I heard uncle Jonny tell uncle Ben that there were snakes in there. Don't be silly said Jordan. I'll show you, I'll go first. Mya thought for a second, and said, ok Jordan you go first, but you have to sit down like us girls do, so we can see that it is really safe. Jordan said ok and in he went. The thought of snakes being in the hole, was now inside his head, and he was a little frightened. He thought of Poppop for a moment, and then he knew it was ok. He remembered stories poppop told him, of using the out house when he went camping. So jordan sat down and peed. When he finished, Ayla went and then Mya. No snakes. Max stood when he went, he wasn't sitting on that thing, he knew better. When they were all finished in the out house, they began to walk back. The moon was already at the top of the other mountain, and it would be darker again, in just a few minutes. We are doing great said Jordan, we are already back to the big tree. Oh good said Mya, is the baby deer still there? Jordan looked over the tree, oh no thought Jordan, a bear. He turned them all around and whispered for them not to make a sound. Follow me he said. Why said Mya what's wrong? Just follow me now and hurry, he whispered. Jordan scampered back toward the outhouse, and they all quickly followed. When they got there , Jordan told them that on the other side of the fallen tree, was a really big bear. How will we get back asked Ayla, yea said Max how? The stream is right over there to the right said Jordan, I can hear it. Me too said Max. Our site is right at the edge of the stream. We can follow it back. The children all followed Jordan. When they got to the stream , Jordan turned and headed up towards the tent sites. In a few minutes, they saw a fire glowing at one of the sites. Everyone felt better now. They were getting close. Max heard a noise in the leaves behind him. His heart sank. He didn't want to look, he knew it must be the bear. But Max also knew, for everyone's safety, he needed to check, and he slowly turned his head. Sure enough something was there, but it wasn't the bear. It was the fawn. The little baby deer had followed them. When they reached the first set of tents, they saw three big raccoons scavenging around the tent area, looking for scraps. Awe, said Mya, they are so cute. I want to go and pet them. Me too said Ayla. Let's Just get back to our tents said Max, I'm really tired and I want to be well rested for tomorrow. Max is right said Jordan, who knows what our parents have planned for the day. I know whatever it is, will be just awesome. I love camping he said. As they got closer the racoons scurried down over the bank toward the stream. A second later, the fawn scampered off into the woods also. When they came to Ayla and Maxes tent, they said goodnight to each other. Max and Ayla went into their tent and Mya and Jordan went into theirs. Boomer was still awake and waiting for them. His tail wagging and his tongue hanging out panting as always. Everyone was safe. Mya fell right to sleep cuddling up to Amanda and Ken. Jordan laid awake for a while thinking about the night. I wonder what we will do tomorrow he thought. A few minutes later he to fell asleep. When his eye's opened, he was laying on the ground in his sleeping bag. He rolled over and only Mya was in the tent with him. end part two.
