I was fishing in the river by the old broken down barn, just below the train trestle, in a deep hole, by the Mill Rift Rapids. I could hear the the train chugging along on the side of the mountain, headed downstream toward me. In my mind, I was picturing the little white clouds of smoke, puffing out into the crisp morning air, from the old steam engine, that was pulling the freight cars along behind it. Then I was thinking of the little engine that could, and thomas the tank. I was looking at the coolest red caboose now, far off in my daydream, when BAM, it struck the bait. My pole was bending in half, and I gave it a quick jerk up to set the hook. Gotcha, I yelled. I knew it was big. I had fished here many times before, but the big fish, somehow, always got away from me. I had changed the line to an 18 pound test. A much stronger line than I usually used. It wasn't gonna snap my line this time. The fish was pulling hard. The drag was going out like the bale was open, so I tightened it a little at a time until I had control, but allowed the fish to pull without breaking the line. He was staying deep and fighting hard. Pulling and thrashing under the water, slowing, then running again, pulling the line out fast. After about five minutes, it felt as if the fish was tiring out. As I was reeling him in, he was fighting far less than in the beginning. Just when I had him near the shore, still under the water, I hadn't seen him yet, my pole bent in half, and zoom, he darted fast up stream again. The drag was tight but he was strong and it sang the old drag zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz song as he went. Suddenly! WWW AAAA WWWW AAAAAAAA!!!! I jumped. The train was right up above me and the conductor blasted the horn. My eyes popped open, and I was still in my warm bed, surrounded by pillows and blankets. I smelled the coffee brewing, and smoke, from the fire in the woodstove, creeping into my room, through the semi opened window. There was no train, no fish, just the damn rooster crowing at the top of his lungs. Well I guess it's time to get moving. The only thing I'll catch in bed is the lazies. I wish everyone a wonderful day. And remember, follow your dreams as best you can, It's never too late. Peace.
