With the daily hustle and bustle, and the busy lives we all lead, from the homesteaders cutting wood and tending livestock and gardens, and still working jobs to support their families, to the city folks commuting back and forth in traffic to get to work and home again, we have far less time to prepare meals for all the hungry mouths we have to feed. Sometimes a quicker meal is in order. I remember when I was a young adult around age 18, my mom used to make a dish called spaghetti on the stove. It took her less than an hour, and was always a big hit. Our friends would argue as to who was getting to stay and eat. Even after a night out on the town, my brothers and I would come home and be heating it up at 3am, because it was just that good. I have made this many times for my own children, who are now all grown and on their own, and they will still come over, just to have spaghetti on the stove. Even their friends went crazy for it, just as our friends did years ago. I suppose everyone already has their own version of this awesome dish, but here is the way my mom taught me to make it. In the pictures here, I am using 3lbs hamburger, two quarts sauce, half pint paste, onion, garlic, basil, salt and pepper. A bit of olive oil and half stick of butter. If you use venison, more garlic and more butter. I've used venison many times over the years and my kids loved it. I never told them lol. Thus don't ask don't tell. hahahhaha Butter and oil in a big pan. Add onions and chopped garlic and cook until soft but still white. Then add the meat. Leave it good and chunky for the hungry man in all of us. Add in the salt and pepper and basil, and stir it up good. Put your sauce into another pot and begin to heat it up. After the meat is mostly brown, pour in the sauce and mix well. While that is simmering, heat up the water for the fine egg noodles. Now add about half a cup of sugar to the meat sauce. Turn it in good. When the noodles are al dente, drain them, and add it all together. That's it. You just made spaghetti on the stove in forty minutes. No matter how much you make, they will always want more. I love sharing with people who appreciate the value of time and energy. I have added a lot of pics with this recipe, so you can see it as you go. I hope you enjoy it as much as the last three generations in our family. And remember, you are the most important person in the lives of all your family. They love and need you more than they ever let on. Let the weekend begin.
