A father and his daughter were sitting on the edge of the river fishing, when a huge bass jumps up and out of the water just on the other side. It was out of reach for casting, but the daughter tried several times anyway. It's too far, said her dad, he's a smart one over there. I've been after him for years. We cannot catch that old boy from here. It's impossible. As the girl watched the fish jump out of the water over and over, she asked her father, is he teasing us dad? The old man set down his pole, he turned and told her this; it may appear he is playing with you, but he is just eating bugs. Being so far away from it, we are no threat. But he said, yes, I believe he is teasing us. Still watching this big fish jump every couple of minutes intrigued the girl. She thought maybe if she kept casting, the fish might be coaxed into chasing after the bait and taking it. She said to her dad, maybe we can be a threat, and throw rocks just passed him, and scare him to swim closer in our direction. The father thought for a moment, and then stood up. I'll throw the rocks he said, and you start casting. With that her dad began throwing the rocks, on the third cast, the old man's daughter caught the fish. After she took it off the hook, she handed it to her father. Great job honey he said. He held it, remembering all the times he watched that fish jump over the years, and even all the times he talked to it as he fished. He felt a bit sad that he would no longer see it jump, but he was more proud of his daughter having the smarts to catch it. Even though he had told her it was impossible, she outsmarted the fish and caught it. He handed her back the fish, but instead of putting it on the stringer, she knelt down and released him back into the river. Her dad asked, why did you let him go? The daughter looked into her father's eyes, I just wanted to show you that I could catch him. Her father put his arms around her and held her tight. I love you he said, and I know you can do whatever you set your mind to. I am very very proud of you, more than you will ever know. You are a great daughter and I love you with my whole heart. With that the old man vanished. The woman stood up with a tear in her eye to leave, she looked across the river at the fish jumping once again, I love you too dad. I miss you! May today be a day of memories, family, and peace. I love you. Never forget it.
