So last night just after dark, my wife went outside to close the chicken coop. The chickens and duck are always inside by then. After about five minutes, she came back into the house, and informed me the duck was still out, and would not go in. I jumped up, put my shoes on, and went out side to check on him. I called," hey duck let's go". Right away he came running up, stopped, looked at me, and then like a dog, turned his head toward the nursery coop. I had forgot to close and cover and put the heat lamp on in the nursery, where his three new baby girls were. It was already getting cold outside. As I walked over to the smaller coop, he happily waddled back into the run and up into the big coop. After closing up both coops I said goodnight to all the girls and then said, "thank you duck". The damn thing quacked back. Yes, he quacked back. But what amazed me most, is that he had the presence of mind to rebel, in order to save the ducklings. I guess rebellion to save our family and friends, is in the natural order of life itself. Learn from my duck! I am.
