The Adventure's of Mya and Jordan The Adventure at the Zoo Part 3
The children were running down the tunnel as fast as they could. When they finally stopped, they were in complete darkness again. I don't hear the lion any more said Jordan, Maybe he gave up. The kids were all huddled tight together. They were again safe, but in the pitch black of the dark tunnel. Mya started to cry. Ayla joined right in. Ok said Max, we don't need any of that. We'll be ok said Jordan. We ran a long way! We have to be closer to the end of the path by now. Suddenly the low moaning sound started again. Somehow it was still in front of them. Let's get moving said Jordan, hands on shoulders. Each of them grabbed the shoulder in front of them, and Jordan with his left hand on the wall moved forward. Mya was afraid again. So was Ayla and Max. Jordan was also worried, but knew he must be strong for the others. The sound got louder and louder, but the children kept moving bravely ahead. Jordan saw a small bit of light up in the distance, and this pleased him very much. For some reason, the light always seemed to make thing a little easier. And less scary. As they approached the light the sound was really loud, but there was nothing there. It's the wind! Exclaimed Jordan, it's the wind. The wind, Mya asked? Yes said Jordan. You know how at home during the storms, when the wind blows and howls like a monster? Yes said Ayla, Mya, and Max. Well you feel the wind right? Yes, they all replied. It is blowing through the cracks where the light is, just like a great big whistle. That is it. You are so smart Jordan, said Ayla. No, said Jordan, you all would have knew too. Once again feeling at ease Jordan said with gusto, Ok guys, let's find the way out of here. Jordan took out his trusty map. While his eyes searched over the map, his brain was working hard. We left the Lions cage, which is here on the map, he said, and we stayed in this direction. If I am right, and the tunnel follows the path, we should be real close to another left turn. With that they started to walk again. About fifty feet ahead was another crack in the ceiling, with the dim light. And it looked like another one just ahead of that. As they reached the first crack of light, again there were metal bar stairs. I have an Idea said Jordan. I'll climb up this one, and maybe we can get out here. No Jordan, said Mya pleading with him. It could be a another lion, or worse. I have to Mya, said Jordan, we need to find a way out. Jordan climbed the stairs. The thought of another lion or maybe a bear frightened him, but he continued to the top. Instantly, Jordan knew where he was. Ooh ooh ooh eee eee eee aah aah aah. We are at the monkey cage. He climbed back down and looked at his map. Just as I thought said Jordan, look. Here we are at the monkey cage. If we can get to the the main entrance building, which is here, maybe there is an exit from the tunnel. They must have used the tunnels to get to the cages, said Jordan, when the weather was really bad outside. I hope your right said Ayla. It sounds great to me said Max, Me too, said Mya. Ok said Jordan boldy, we have a plan. They walked about a hundred feet and sure enough, another left turn. We are almost there, said Jordan. Everyone was now happy and excited. Max was smiling from ear to ear. Ayla was humming a happy tune. And Mya was wiping tears of joy, from her face. As they walked down the tunnel toward the main entrance of the zoo, the tunnel was getting wetter. We must be close to the big pond by the building said Jordan. That is probably where the water is coming from. Mya and Ayla, started to complain about the water. My feet are getting wet, said Ayla. Yes, said Mya, this is gross. Max liked water. It didn't bother him one bit. Jordan didn't mind either. The further they went the deeper it got. The water was now up above their knees and they girls were scared. Then suddenly, the next step jordan took, he fell into deep water. Stop yelled Max. The girls stopped and Max helped Jordan out of the water. The happy feelings went back to sad and afraid. They were at a dead end. Jordan said Max, pull out that map. Jordan took the map out of his pocket. Max and him unfolded it carefully. It was all soggy and already falling apart. There is the main entrance said Max. It should be right in front of us. Jordan and Max both thought. Do you think it is under the water said Jordan to Max. I believe it is said max. I will dive in and seach said Jordan. No, said max. You stay with the girls, you have gotten us all the way here. It is my turn to help. No Max, said Ayla and Mya. No one is leaving. Remember the buddy system. We can do this together Max, said Jordan. We will find the way out and come back for the girls. Max dove in first with Jordan right behind him. They opened their eyes under the water and looked at each other. Then they gave each other a thumbs up and swam deep into the water. The two boys swam and swam. Just about out of breath, they saw a bright light. They both swam hard and fast right toward it. Jordan surfaced first , with Max, just seconds behind him. They were at the end of the tunnel. They climbed out of the water and stood in front of a big old wooden door. There was a light over the door just like at home. There were no windows and they could not see inside. Jordan knocked on the door hard. Help us he yelled loudly, but no one answered. Max turned the handle and it was unlocked. Slowly he opened door. There was no one inside. The room was empty, except for a piece of rope on the floor. It had two closed doors on either side of the room. We need to investigate said Jordan. We must be in the basement of the entrance building said Max. We have found our way out. We need to get the girls. You're right said Jordan. Let's go back and get them. They must be so scared by now. Max grabbed the rope and tucked it into his pocket. The boys left the room and dove into the water. Ayla and Mya were still standing in the water. The boys did not know it, but the water was now waiste deep, and rising fast. They were going to dive in, but after all, the boys never came back. Mya and Ayla were holding each other tight and crying. Maybe we should head back into the tunnel said Mya. That's a good idea said Ayla. If the boys do make it back, oh Mya, cried Ayla, Jordan and Max; Just then the boys heads popped out of the water. We found the way out. The girls pulled the boys from the deep water and hugged them. We thought we were gonna die said Ayla. And we thought you died too said Mya. Never said Max, not while Jordan and I are here. Let's do this. I'm gonna count to three, said Jordan. On two everyone take the biggest breath you ever took and hold it. On three we dive in together. Wait, said max. He took the piece of rope from his pocket, stretched it, and rubbed it up and down on a sharp piece of the stone wall. The rope cut into two pieces. He gave one to Jordan and he kept the other. He looked at Mya and Ayla and said, if either of you get's in trouble under the water grab and hold the rope. With that him and Jordan each tied the rope around one of their ankles. Good idea Max, said Jordan. Ok said Jordan are we ready? Everyone nodded yea. Ok, one, two, three! Splash. End part three.
